Islamabad, Apr 18, 2025: Pakistan food export sector saw a modest increase of 1.62% during the first nine months of the fiscal year 2024-2025 (July 2024–March 2025) compared to the previous year.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), food exports totaled $5.749 billion, rising from $5.658 billion.
Among these exports, Basmati rice stood out with 663,980 metric tons shipped, valued at $676.967 million during this period.
The export of fish and seafood products experienced an 8.15% growth, reaching 151,787 metric tons worth $332.906 million, compared to the 145,671 metric tons valued at $289.568 million during the same period last year.
Tobacco exports also saw a significant increase, with 37,212 metric tons worth $144.525 million exported, compared to 17,070 metric tons valued at $61.576 million during the same period last year.

On the flip side, the country’s food imports dropped by 2.74%, totaling $6.118 billion, down from $6.290 billion during the same period last year.
Key items such as wheat saw a complete reduction in imports, tea dropped by 5.45%, and sugar imports fell by 1.75%.
In March 2025, food imports into Pakistan decreased by 11.13% compared to the same month the previous year.

The value of imported food items stood at $736.860 million, down from $829.163 million in March 2024.
Conversely, food exports in March 2025 saw a decline of 16.66%, with total exports valued at $576.177 million, down from $691.355 million in the same month the previous year.
