Islamabad, 20 April 2025:Ali Tareen has announced he will not renew Multan Sultans’ franchise deal with the PCB after PSL 10.
However, he made it clear that he intends to continue owning the team by participating in the next bidding process.
Tareen voiced his dissatisfaction with the current ownership and revenue-sharing model, calling it unclear and financially unviable.
He pointed out that franchise renewals are currently set at either a 25% increase on the original price or a price based on new valuations — a structure he believes lacks transparency and fairness.

Tareen explained that while he could technically accept the proposed increase, doing so without knowing the actual valuation process would be a misstep.
He stressed that any new investment should be based on real market value rather than assumptions.
Since acquiring Multan Sultans in 2018, the Tareen family has overseen a remarkable transformation of the team.
Under their ownership, the Sultans have reached four straight finals and clinched the PSL title in 2021.
Despite this success on the field, Tareen revealed that the franchise remains unprofitable, which has played a role in his decision.

He criticised the initial condition of the league when he took charge, stating that expectations of commercial growth were not met due to a lack of structural development within the PCB.
Still, Tareen clarified that he has no intention of stepping away from Multan Sultans entirely.
Instead, once the contracts of all six franchises expire after PSL X, he plans to rebid — this time with a clearer understanding of the team’s worth.
While the PCB is set to introduce two new franchises in the next cycle, Multan fans can find comfort in knowing that the team’s current owner remains committed to its future.
