Islamabad, 21 April 2025: Ali Tareen has urged PCB to revamp the management structure of PSL in order to improve its global appeal and competitiveness.
Tareen laid out a clear roadmap, suggesting that PSL requires fresh thinking and professional expertise to keep pace with rival tournaments around the world.
Reflecting on his five-year experience with the franchise, Tareen acknowledged that the PSL had come a long way.
However, he warned that without continued evolution, the league risked falling behind.

He welcomed the decision to establish the PSL as a separate entity but stressed that this was just the beginning.
Tareen questioned the capability of the existing PSL team, comparing its size and revenue to that of major Pakistani corporations.
He challenged whether current league officials could hold similar roles at companies like Engro, implying that a lack of top-tier talent was holding the PSL back.
He emphasized that while the PCB may favour familiar internal candidates, the PSL should be treated differently, describing it as most valuable sports brand.
According to Tareen, the league needs professionals who can introduce bold ideas and bring the expertise needed to push it forward.

Addressing past criticism where he accused the PCB, Tareen clarified that his frustration stemmed from a genuine concern over the league’s stagnation.
He pointed out that the PSL is no longer competing only with (IPL, but is now falling behind newer leagues such as BPL.
As a way forward, Tareen proposed introducing innovations such as the IPL’s impact player rule or the Big Bash League’s power surge.
He believes such changes, along with hiring professionals, could reignite fan interest and help the PSL reclaim its place among the top T20 leagues globally.
