Islamabad, 22 April 2025: England’s most capped player and Leicester Tigers icon, Ben Youngs, has announced that he will retire at the end of the current rugby season.
The 35-year-old, widely recognised as one of the finest scrum-halves of his generation, is preparing to bring down the curtain on a remarkable 18-year career in the sport.
Youngs made his senior debut for Leicester in 2007 and played his 332nd match for the club last weekend.
In addition to his long club career, he represented England 127 times between 2010 and 2023, including appearances at four Rugby World Cups.
Reflecting on his upcoming retirement, Youngs described it as a mix of emotions.

He acknowledged that while it was difficult to accept the end was near, he remained focused on helping his team in the final stretch of the season.
He expressed his excitement about what the current squad could still achieve, adding that there was still plenty of rugby left before his final bow.
Youngs emphasised how deeply he valued his time at Leicester, calling it his home for nearly two decades.
He said the club had given him unforgettable moments and lasting memories.
Remaining a one-club man throughout his professional career was something he considered among his greatest personal accomplishments.

He shared that he never once considered playing against Leicester and had only ever wanted to wear the green, red, and white colours.
Youngs also hinted that there would be time later to thank everyone who supported his journey, but for now, his focus was on finishing the season strongly.
During his illustrious career, he helped Leicester Tigers win five Premiership titles and is aiming for a sixth before he steps away from the game.
He retired from international rugby two years ago but continues to play an influential role at the club level.
Youngs said he was not ready for farewells just yet and hoped to end this chapter on a high.
