Islamabad, 23 Apr , 2025: Government Housing Schemes in Lahore are set to undergo a significant security overhaul as the Punjab administration prepares to introduce a sophisticated surveillance system in response to growing concerns over theft and break-ins.
As per official records reviewed by authorities, the provincial government has sanctioned a budget exceeding Rs330 million to strengthen safety protocols across key residential sectors.
These include six Government Officers Residences (GORs), along with Poonch House and Wahdat Colony areas commonly referred to under the umbrella of government housing schemes.
A key feature of the security enhancement involves the deployment of facial recognition systems at all entrance and exit points, aimed at preventing unauthorised access.

Complementing this initiative, automatic number plate recognition technology will be utilised to monitor vehicle movement in and out of these secure zones.
A new command centre is also in the pipeline, intended to coordinate all surveillance and operational activities.
This hub will be the nerve centre of the upgraded system, equipped with live monitoring capabilities and digital record management essential tools in modern urban security.
Details from project documents indicate that more than Rs20 million will be spent on CCTV camera installation alone.
Another Rs20 million is earmarked for acquiring modern guard posts, steel barriers, and digital infrastructure, including computer systems to streamline operations.
In addition, approximately Rs70 million is set aside for the creation and outfitting of a state-of-the-art control room.

This facility will serve as the operational heart of the enhanced security network, enabling real-time decision-making and quicker response times.
The planned upgrades reflect a broader strategy to protect residents and uphold law and order within government housing schemes.

With implementation expected in the coming months, the success of this initiative could set a precedent for future urban safety upgrades in other government housing schemes across Punjab.
