Islamabad, 24 April 2025: Real Madrid kept their slim La Liga title hopes alive with a narrow 1-0 victory over Getafe, thanks to a first-half goal from Arda Guler.
The win moves Madrid to within four points of leaders Barcelona with just five games left in the season.
Still reeling from their Champions League exit to Arsenal, Carlo Ancelotti’s side entered the match under mounting pressure to salvage silverware from the campaign.
With one eye on this weekend’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona, the Italian manager made six changes to his lineup.

He opted to rest star midfielder Jude Bellingham and had to cope with the absence of Kylian Mbappe, who was sidelined due to an ankle injury.
Guler struck in the 21st minute, finishing a swift counter with a shot that Soria touched but couldn’t stop.
Madrid struggled to build on their early lead, as Endrick was denied a debut goal by Djene’s goal-line clearance after Soria’s initial save.
Getafe responded in the second half, with Alvaro Rodriguez’s header and Mauro Arambarri’s off-target shot being their best chances.

Madrid also had chances to seal the result, with Vinicius Jr choosing to shoot rather than pass to teammates Bellingham or Brahim Diaz, forcing a save from Soria.
The game was briefly interrupted in the 77th minute as the referee consulted both managers and a police official after midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni raised a concern.
A stadium announcement was made soon after, urging fans to avoid using racist language.
Getafe nearly snatched a late equaliser in stoppage time, but Thibaut Courtois made a crucial save to deny Rodriguez.
The result keeps Getafe 12th, safe from relegation but out of European contention, while Real Madrid now shift focus to the Clasico, where a win could revive their title hopes.
