Islamabad, Apr 24, 2025: In a significant move to support underprivileged workers, the Punjab government has approved a comprehensive economic assistance initiative, offering monthly aid of Rs. 10,000 to over 1.5 million laborers.
The decision was finalized in the 25th provincial cabinet meeting, signaling a strong push toward economic and social reform.
Monthly Financial Support for Workers
As part of the newly introduced labor welfare program, deserving workers will receive monthly financial help through specially issued smart ration cards.
This step aims to ease the burden of inflation and enhance food security among low-income families. The initiative is being seen as a landmark in Punjab’s social support strategy.
Agricultural Benefits and Market Reform
To benefit farmers, the cabinet introduced the Electronic Warehouse Receipt System, enabling wheat growers to store their crops without bearing storage expenses.
The provincial government will absorb these costs, allowing farmers to hold their produce until market conditions are favorable.
Additionally, the cabinet passed a crucial amendment to the Food Grains Licensing Control Order (1957). Under this revision, flour mills are now obligated to purchase at least 25% of their wheat supply directly from local farmers.

Mills that fail to meet this quota will risk having their licenses revoked. Furthermore, the deregulation of the wheat market is expected to improve competition and pricing for agricultural producers.
Infrastructure and Healthcare Developments
The meeting also addressed urban development and healthcare improvements. A green electric bus service has been approved for Rajanpur to promote sustainable transport.
At the same time, feasibility studies are underway for new mass transit systems in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Lahore, including yellow, blue, and purple lines.
In healthcare, significant funding has been allocated for purchasing essential medicines, advanced medical equipment, and modern hospital furniture to enhance treatment standards in public hospitals.
