Islamabad, 30 April 2025: Residential areas in Karachi, particularly near the University of Karachi, have been hit by significant flooding after the 84-inch bulk water supply line burst.
The floodwaters have infiltrated homes, creating a near-disastrous situation for residents.
The pipeline, which supplies water to several neighborhoods across Karachi, has been a source of concern for some time.
Despite multiple complaints and repeated warnings from local residents, the relevant authorities have failed to address the underlying issues effectively.

Residents have voiced their frustration, calling for immediate repairs and a long-term solution to prevent future incidents.
They have emphasized the need for alternative measures to ensure that such flooding doesn’t occur again.
In response to the situation, Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) CEO, Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, has ordered urgent repairs to the damaged pipeline.
The KWSC spokesperson also confirmed that to facilitate the repair work, water pressure has been reduced across the city.
Repair operations are set to begin immediately after the water supply is reduced. These efforts will be continuous, with work expected to proceed around the clock.

During the repair period, water supply will be partially suspended in multiple areas, including Jamshed Town, Jinnah Town, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Pak Colony, Golimar, Sher Shah, the Old City Area, Landhi, Korangi, and PAF Base Masroor.
Currently, the city receives a total of 650 million gallons per day (MGD) of water, but the necessary repairs will lead to a daily shortfall of approximately 250 MGD.
Despite this setback, the spokesperson assured that the city will continue to receive 400 MGD of water, maintaining supply for essential needs during the repair process.
