Islamabad – May 2, 2025: Indian influencer and entrepreneur Misha Agarwal, who passed away on April 24, took her own life after facing emotional distress caused by a drop in her Instagram followers, her family confirmed in a public statement released Wednesday.
Agarwal, a 24-year-old law graduate and digital content creator, died just two days before her 25th birthday. Her family’s statement sheds light on the emotional challenges she had been facing in recent months, particularly regarding her identity as a social media personality.
According to her loved ones, Misha had become increasingly anxious about the declining number of followers on her Instagram account. Her family said she had devoted much of her time and energy to building an online presence, with the ambition of reaching one million followers and earning widespread admiration.
Her family explained that as her follower count began to fall, she became visibly upset and started questioning her self-worth. “Instagram had become the center of her world,” her family said, adding that she would often express fear about the future of her career if her followers continued to drop.

Her sister recalled moments when Misha would break down in tears, worried that a decline in popularity on social media meant the end of her professional path.
Despite repeated encouragement to shift her focus toward her academic background and career goals—she had an LLB degree and was preparing for judicial service exams—she reportedly remained emotionally attached to her online persona.
Attempts to support and guide her toward mental well-being, her family said, did not succeed. “We tried to remind her that Instagram was just one part of life,” her sister noted. “But sadly, she became overwhelmed and lost sight of her own worth beyond the app.”
The family said they are devastated by her passing and hope that her story will serve as a wake-up call about the mental health impact of social media pressure, especially on young content creators.
