Islamabad, May 5, 2025: The annual Karachi Board of Intermediate Education (BIEK) exams have officially commenced today, drawing in a massive crowd of over 126,500 students eager to test their knowledge and secure their academic futures.
Covering grades 11 and 12, the 2025 exams span multiple groups including Science, Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, Science General, and Home Economics.
But it’s not just regular students showing up — this year’s exams also cater to those looking to improve past grades, take on extra subjects, or clear pending papers under special categories like “Twelve Papers” and short subjects.
Morning and Evening Exam Splits
The exams are split into two major shifts. The morning slot (9:00 AM–12:00 PM) hosts Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, and Home Economics candidates, accounting for over 92,000 students.
The evening shift (2:00 PM–5:00 PM) handles the Science General group, with more than 34,500 students.
To accommodate this massive turnout, BIEK has set up 182 examination centers across Karachi — 122 for the morning and 60 for the evening.

Notably, 36 of these centers have been flagged as “highly sensitive” due to potential security concerns.
Unprecedented Security and Vigilance
BIEK has ramped up security like never before. Requests have been dispatched to Sindh’s Inspector General of Police, Karachi’s Commissioner, DIG Traffic, and K-Electric to ensure a stable and secure environment.
Special focus is on the 36 sensitive centers, with monitoring cells keeping a watchful eye on activities.
To further tighten exam integrity, 16 super vigilance teams have been deployed, and complaint cells are now active in all district deputy commissioner offices, ready to tackle any grievances.
Each question paper is tracked by a unique center code, a smart move to swiftly trace the origin in case of any leaks.
Health Safety Amid Karachi’s Heat
With Karachi’s heat hitting its seasonal peak, BIEK has coordinated with Rescue 1122 to stay on standby for any heatstroke or health emergencies.
Authorities have also called for Section 144 enforcement around exam centers, banning unauthorized persons and closing nearby photocopy shops to prevent cheating.
Any mobile phones or unauthorized gadgets caught inside exam halls will be immediately confiscated.
Compared to past years, this edition of the exams features some of the most robust anti-cheating mechanisms Karachi has ever seen.
Experts suggest that these heightened measures reflect growing concerns over academic integrity, especially as competition for university placements intensifies.
