Islamabad, 5 May, 2025: 30,000 Vehicles Seized in Karachi as part of a sweeping traffic enforcement operation ordered by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, aiming to address long-standing issues of unregistered and dangerously modified vehicles across the city.

Launched on April 9, the campaign led by Karachi’s traffic police has so far resulted in the confiscation of over 31,600 motorcycles for a range of traffic rule violations.

Targeting Rickshaws and Reckless Driving

The initiative, which expanded on April 16 to include Qingqi and motorcycle rickshaws (MCRs), has resulted in 311 three-wheelers being seized.

These rickshaws have been declared court property, and their drivers taken into custody for breaching transport regulations.

Legal proceedings have been launched, with 104 First Information Reports (FIRs) filed under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code for disobedience to official orders.

Further cases include 33 under Section 341 for obstruction and one related to dangerous driving.

Additionally, the traffic police have issued 7,069 challans and confiscated 32 illegal LPG and CNG kits from vehicles operating in violation of safety protocols.

GPS Trackers Now Mandatory for Heavy Vehicles

To minimise accidents involving larger transport vehicles, city officials have begun installing GPS tracking devices in all commercial and industrial vehicles operating within Karachi.

As of May 4, GPS systems have been fitted in over 6,800 vehicles, including tanker trucks, buses, dumpers, and trailers, ensuring better monitoring and safer navigation.

Officials stressed that the drive is part of a long-term vision to promote public safety and hold vehicle owners accountable for compliance with the law.
