Islamabad, 6 May, 2025: A new traffic plan has been put in place following the temporary closure of a vital section of the Murree highway, stretching from Satra Meel Toll Plaza to Bansara Gali.
The decision comes amid major maintenance efforts currently being undertaken by the Highway Department.
According to an update from Murree Traffic Police issued on Monday, a repair and resurfacing operation is under way on the Chhatar to Salgran portion of the road.
This has resulted in a complete shutdown for all types of vehicular movement on that route.

The authorities explained that this precaution was necessary to facilitate uninterrupted roadwork and to safeguard motorists from potential hazards along the damaged stretch.
As part of the new traffic plan, drivers travelling from Islamabad and Rawalpindi towards Murree are strongly encouraged to take the Murree Expressway instead.
Traffic police have installed guidance signs and deployed staff at key diversion points to assist in the redirection of traffic and ensure smooth flow on alternative routes.
Officials stressed that the closure is temporary and aimed at accelerating the pace of ongoing work.
They highlighted that minimising disruption now would help prevent longer delays in the future, particularly with the summer tourist season approaching.
Motorists are advised to check for traffic updates before departing and to allocate additional time for their journey to avoid unexpected delays.
Traffic authorities have reassured the public that every effort is being made to complete the work swiftly and reopen the highway as soon as it is deemed safe.
The current construction effort involves resurfacing the road to improve driving conditions, reduce wear and tear on vehicles, and enhance long-term road safety in the area especially as Murree continues to be one of the most visited hill stations in the country.
