Islamabad, 6 May, 2025: Punjab is gearing up to introduce e-taxi in a major move to modernize transport and cut air pollution.
The provincial government has recently approved a pilot phase that will introduce 1,100 electric taxis on the roads in the initial phase.
A high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, reviewed different transportation plans for the province.
During the meeting, officials discussed various transport plans, including the new e-taxi initiative and a review of the proposed Yellow Line mass transit system.

The chief minister emphasized the government’s goal of offering clean, reliable, and modern public transport across Punjab.
The participants reviewed funding plans for the e-taxi project and approved the first phase rollout. The scheme will also include the installation of solar-powered charging stations to support the green fleet.
Authorities discussed the possibility of placing these stations near existing petrol pumps to make access easier for drivers.

In the meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed transport officials to prioritize public convenience while finalizing routes.
She also called for swift action to begin construction on the Yellow Line and sought a detailed report on new public transport routes in Gujranwala.
The government plans to provide financial assistance under the e-taxi project to help drivers make the transition.
The overall goal is to offer more sustainable and commuter-friendly transport options to residents throughout the province.
