Islamabad, 6 May, 2025: As tensions escalate between Pakistan and India, a Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) cargo ship has been redirected to Singapore instead of its original stop in India.
The cargo ship, loaded with timber, departed from Malaysia’s Bintulu Port on May 3 and was initially meant to reach Kandla Port in India.
Officials within PNSC revealed that the timber shipment will likely be discharged in Singapore over the next few days.
Although Singapore has been marked as the primary offloading site of PNSC cargo, ports such as Colombo and Sohar are also under review, given their geographical convenience.

The diversion follows New Delhi’s recent decision to halt the entry of Pakistani ships at Indian ports.
This development is part of a wider collapse in trade relations between two countries, which has already seen Pakistan ban on Indian flights over its airspace and Indian diplomats expulsion.
Analysts have cautioned that these kinds of interruptions may further deteriorate already fragile economic relations between the two nations.

As political and military challenges persist, their consequences are now becoming more visible in economic fallouts, especially in the shipping sector.
Pakistan has taken up the matter on global forums and is exploring diplomatic channels to address the issue.
Tensions remain high, with both governments facing pressure to reduce conflict and prevent prolonged economic setbacks.
