Islamabad, 7 May, 2025: The Rain and Hailstorm forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) promises widespread weather disruptions starting the night of May 7, with thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and possible hailstorms expected to affect most of the country.

This unsettled weather is being driven by an approaching westerly system combined with moist air currents from the south.

Regions Set to Experience Severe Weather

According to the PMD’s latest forecast, the severe weather will first impact northern and central regions, gradually extending to the south. The unsettled conditions are predicted to last in some areas, with sporadic breaks, until May 12.

Rain and Hailstorm warnings have been issued for several regions, including:

  • Kashmir: Areas like Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, and Mirpur will experience rain, thunderstorms, and windstorms, with the possibility of isolated hailstorms from May 7 to May 12.
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: Diamir, Skardu, Gilgit, Hunza, and nearby areas can expect similar conditions from May 8 to May 12.
  • Punjab and Islamabad: Rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by hail, are expected in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and the capital city between May 7 and May 11, with southern areas such as Multan and Bahawalpur seeing the weather from May 8 to 10.
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Northern and central districts will face intense rain and hailstorms between May 7 and May 12, with southern areas like Dera Ismail Khan also experiencing rain from May 8 to 10.
  • Balochistan: Thunderstorms and rain are expected in Quetta, Zhob, and Khuzdar from May 7 to May 10.
  • Sindh: Parts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, and Tharparkar, will receive rainfall from the evening of May 8 through May 10.

Safety Precautions and Warnings

With the Rain and Hailstorm expected to intensify, authorities have issued warnings about potential damage to infrastructure, including power lines, vehicles, and crops.

Farmers, especially those involved in wheat harvesting, have been advised to adjust their schedules in line with the weather forecast.
