Islamabad, 10 May,2025: Virat Kohli may soon bring his storied Test career to a close, according to recent reports, potentially following Rohit Sharma into retirement just days after the Indian skipper stepped down from the longest format.
Sources close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that Virat Kohli has expressed his intent to retire from Test cricket following the upcoming five-match series against England, scheduled to start on June 20.
If confirmed, the move would mark the end of a distinguished 14-year Test journey during which he scored over 9,200 runs at an average nearing 47, including 30 centuries.

Although not traditionally viewed as his most dominant format, Virat Kohli consistently held a pivotal role in India’s Test batting lineup since his 2011 debut.
His leadership tenure further elevated his legacy, with 40 victories from 68 matches as captain the most for any Indian skipper placing him among the top four Test captains globally in terms of wins.
Despite a stellar past, Kohli’s recent performances in Tests have been modest. Since scoring an unbeaten 254 against South Africa in 2019, his average has notably dropped, and he has registered only one century in the last two years, achieved in Perth in late 2024.
With the Indian Test team undergoing significant transition highlighted by the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin Kohli remains one of the few experienced players in the squad, alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja.
