Islamabad, May 11, 2025: In a poignant reflection on India’s political legacy, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot invoked the leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in light of the recent cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan.
His comments come at a time when diplomatic efforts are seeing a rare thaw in Indo-Pak relations, making his words both timely and historically significant.
Speaking to the media, Gehlot said, “Indira Gandhi’s courage and statesmanship guided India through some of the most difficult times, including the 1971 war.
Her decisive leadership still inspires generations.” His remarks drew attention not only to the current developments but also to how India’s past leadership tackled cross-border conflicts with determination.
The primary keyword India and Pakistan ceasefire remains at the center of discussions, with many observers comparing today’s situation with the 1971 Indo-Pak war, which culminated in the creation of Bangladesh.
Back then, under Gandhi’s leadership, India managed a swift military and diplomatic victory, something Gehlot subtly pointed to as a benchmark of national resolve.

Political analysts note that Gehlot’s statement is aimed at reminding citizens of the Congress party’s legacy in maintaining national security.
It also subtly critiques the current BJP-led government, suggesting that India’s past leadership set a higher standard during similar crises.
With the current India and Pakistan ceasefire gaining traction internationally, Gehlot’s tribute to Indira Gandhi may rekindle discussions around leadership, legacy, and India’s future approach to peace and diplomacy.
