WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that the United States is ready to support Pakistan and India, particularly in matters of trade, following the recent ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
Speaking at a White House event, Trump claimed his administration played a role in facilitating the truce.
He emphasized that trade considerations were a major factor in de-escalating the tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
“Trade is a big reason why they stopped fighting,” Trump stated.
Commending the leadership of both countries, he remarked, “The leadership of India and Pakistan was unwavering and powerful. They truly understood the seriousness of the situation, showing strength, wisdom, and determination.”
Trump asserted that his administration helped avert a potential nuclear disaster. “We stopped a nuclear conflict. I believe it could have turned into a catastrophic nuclear war with millions of casualties. I’m very proud of that,” he added.
The comments come amid heightened diplomatic activity following the ceasefire announcement, which has been welcomed by the international community as a positive step toward regional stability.
