Islamabad, May 13, 2025: A light earthquake struck Kalat district in Balochistan earlier today, causing brief panic but leaving no major damage in its wake.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the tremor registered a magnitude of 3.0 on the Richter scale, with its epicenter situated approximately 35 kilometers east of Kalat.

The quake originated at a shallow depth of 11 kilometers, which is often enough to be felt on the surface but generally doesn’t cause severe destruction.

Fortunately, initial reports from local officials confirm that no injuries or property damage have been recorded as of now.

While seismic activity of this magnitude is not uncommon in Pakistan’s western regions, experts caution that even minor tremors can be precursors to stronger quakes in tectonically active zones like Balochistan. “Kalat lies within a seismically sensitive region.

Continuous monitoring is essential to ensure community safety,” noted a PMD spokesperson.
