Islamabad, 16 May, 2025: Heatwave warnings have been issued across Pakistan, with the Meteorological Department in Islamabad forecasting severely elevated temperatures for much of the country over the coming days.
Heatwave conditions are expected to persist until at least May 20, with many areas likely to experience temperatures 5 to 7°C higher than usual.
Nationwide Heat Alert Issued
The Heatwave is predicted to affect both northern and southern regions, with the upper parts of Pakistan including Islamabad, Central and Northern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan forecast to face unusually high daytime temperatures from May 16 to 19. These areas may see a spike of 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above the norm.

Meanwhile, southern regions such as Sindh, South Punjab, and Balochistan are likely to endure temperatures 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above average from May 16 to 20.
The weather is expected to remain intensely hot and dry, with little to no relief expected.
Friday and Saturday Weather Breakdown
Across Islamabad and Punjab, both Friday and Saturday will bring scorching conditions, with no significant weather changes anticipated. In Sindh, the heat will persist strongly across most districts through the weekend.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also face dry and extremely hot days, especially in its southern and central regions.
Similarly, Balochistan will experience sweltering weather, though Barkhan and surrounding areas may witness isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon on both days.
In Kashmir, dry and hot weather will dominate, with a chance of partly cloudy skies and localised thundershowers on Friday afternoon.
Gilgit-Baltistan will see consistent hot and dry weather conditions throughout the weekend.
Extreme Temperatures Recorded
On Thursday, maximum temperatures reached a blistering 48°C in Dadu and Turbat, followed closely by DG Khan at 47°C.
Several cities including Bhakkar, Bahawalnagar, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur reported highs of 46°C, highlighting the severity of the ongoing heatwave.

Only Narowal recorded rainfall just 1 mm providing minimal relief amid otherwise relentless heat.
Citizens Urged to Take Precaution
Authorities have advised the public to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and avoid exposure during peak heat hours.
Farmers, students, and the elderly are particularly urged to take protective measures. The Heatwave is expected to strain power and water resources, prompting government bodies to remain on high alert.
