Islamabad, 16 May, 2025: The Sindh government, in collaboration with the Allah Walay Trust, has launched an free meal program for students in government schools across the province.
Sindh’s Education Minister, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, inaugurated the initiative under the name “School Khana Program.”
The meal program is designed to tackle malnutrition and food insecurity, addressing the challenges faced by children in the region.

Addressing the event, Minister Sardar Ali Shah emphasized “nutritional deficiencies have a direct impact on a child’s ability to learn.”
Further highlighting the broader challenges, the minister pointed out that Pakistan ranks among the ten poorest countries in the world, with 42% of the population living below the poverty line.
Children in remote and marginalized areas are suffering from severe malnutrition, he added.
In its first phase, the School Meal Program will provide daily meals to over 70,000 children enrolled in government schools.

Marking the program’s official start, 700 students at Government Boys Primary School Murad Memon were served a free meal during school hours.
Minister Sardar Ali Shah personally served meals to the children.
