Islamabad, May 19, 2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh weather advisory forecasting rain with gusty winds across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, while extreme heat is expected to persist in Sindh and Balochistan, raising concerns for public health and agriculture.
According to PMD officials, Islamabad and adjoining areas can expect partly cloudy skies with chances of rainfall and wind bursts later in the day.
This change in weather could bring slight relief to residents facing consecutive days of hot weather.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, weather experts predict isolated showers accompanied by powerful winds in upper regions like Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, and Battagram.
Cities including Peshawar, Swabi, Mansehra, and Abbottabad are also in line for brief rainfall spells. Southern and central KP regions like Nowshera, Charsadda, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Kohat, Karak, and Dera Ismail Khan may witness similar weather activity, although heat will largely dominate.
Meanwhile, northern and central Punjab is bracing for patchy rain and strong winds in areas such as Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum.
The showers may extend to Lahore, Sargodha, Gujrat, Sialkot, Gujranwala, and Narowal, providing momentary relief from the prevailing heatwave.
Even Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Jhang, and Bhakkar could benefit from the sporadic cooling showers.
In stark contrast, Sindh continues to bake under intense heat, with no immediate respite in sight. Central and northern regions, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Larkana, will experience hot, dry, and dusty weather, particularly during the afternoon.

Similar patterns are expected in Balochistan, where soaring temperatures and dry winds remain the norm.
Meteorological analyst Dr. Nasir Ali noted, “This transitional weather is typical in May. While KP and Punjab get light pre-monsoon activity, southern regions continue to suffer under the dominant continental high-pressure system.”
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has advised residents in storm-prone areas to secure loose items, avoid unnecessary travel during windstorms, and stay hydrated.
Farmers, especially in Punjab and Sindh, have also been urged to plan irrigation wisely considering the fluctuating weather.
Rain is expected in various districts of the province during the next 24 hours, says the Meteorological Department.
Rain is expected in Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Chitral, Swat, and Dir, according to the Meteorological Department.
Rain is expected in Shangla, Bajaur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, Battagram, and Khyber, says the Meteorological Department.
Rain is likely in Kurram, D.I. Khan, North and South Waziristan, Bannu, and Kohat, says the Meteorological Department.
The minimum temperature in Peshawar was recorded at 23°C, according to the Meteorological Department.
The maximum temperature in the city is expected to reach up to 43°C, says the Meteorological Department.
The temperature in D.I. Khan is expected to reach 46°C, says the Meteorological Department.
