Islamabad, May 21, 2025: Google has officially introduced the native NotebookLM app for Android and iOS, offering mobile users a more streamlined and feature-rich experience just ahead of its upcoming I/O 2025 developer conference.

The app comes with an updated layout, improved multimedia capabilities, and direct integration with system-level tools to boost efficiency and user convenience.

Redesigned Interface and Easy Navigation

Upon opening the app, users are greeted with a tidy homepage showcasing a collection of notebooks, each displayed as vivid, card-style tiles. These can be sorted by Recent, Shared, Title, or Downloaded. The app adapts to the system’s light or dark mode by default, with no manual toggle available. Each notebook card includes the title, an emoji icon, source count, and the date it was last modified, alongside a play icon that start the Audio Overview feature.

Upgraded Audio Playback and Offline Accessibility

The Audio Overview tool enables users to hear summarized content from their notebooks in a podcast-like format. Google has introduced background playback and offline support for these audio summaries, with an animated glow featured in the full-screen audio player. Additionally, users can interact with AI hosts (currently in beta), to ask follow-up questions, enhancing engagement during playback.

Easier Content Upload and Sharing Options

Adding new entries is made simple with a “Create new” button located at the bottom of the main page. Users can bring in material from PDFs, webpages, YouTube clips, or even paste plain text. The app is also compatible with Android and iOS share menus, allowing for smooth import of content directly from other applications.

Simplified Notebook Experience

Each notebook features a three-tab structure: Sources, Chat Q&A, and Studio, reflecting the organization seen in the web version. However, the mobile app offers better responsiveness and performance due to its native format. It supports both phones and tablets, though it does not yet include deep elements of Google’s Material 3 design.

Global Rollout and Installation

The NotebookLM app is now officially available across the world. Android users can download it from Google Play Store, while iOS users can access it through the Apple App Store. This release fulfills a popular user request for a dedicated mobile version, expanding beyond the previously available Progressive Web App (PWA).
