Islamabad, May 21, 2025: In a major medical advancement, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has officially launched laser treatment for kidney stones in children as part of its public healthcare system.

The new facility has been established at the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) in Hayatabad, where it was formally inaugurated by Health Advisor Ehtesham Ali.

During his visit, the advisor also inaugurated several units at the institute, including a newly built emergency wing, a pediatric lithotripsy unit, a microbiology lab, and an upgraded administrative section.

Speaking to media after the visit, Ehtesham Ali reviewed the success of non-surgical laser procedures used to break kidney stones in younger patients. He remarked that this method not only avoids surgery but also provides effective results with minimal discomfort.

He further stated that these upgrades would significantly improve the institute’s ability to serve the general public, highlighting that it always set a benchmark with its consistent high-level performance.

The health advisor also mentioned that the provincial government is actively working to improve services in 32 public hospitals throughout the region. Enhancing infrastructure at district-level medical facilities will help reduce patient load at Peshawar’s larger hospitals and improve healthcare accessibility across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
