Islamabad, 23 May 2025: Weather Alert, according to the PMD’s National Weather Forecasting Centre, moist air currents have started to reach the central and upper areas of the country.

Meanwhile, a westerly disturbance is set to arrive over the northern regions on 24th May, potentially intensifying weather conditions and increasing the risk of isolated hailstorms and strong winds.

Regions at Risk

The forecast suggests that dust storms and thunderstorm-related rainfall are expected in several areas, including:

  • Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat
  • Major cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, such as Lahore, Gujranwala, Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, and Waziristan

In addition, Balochistan and southern Punjab are likely to experience rainfall and windstorms on 24th May. Cities like Zhob, Barkhan, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Multan, D.I. Khan, and Layyah are among the regions expected to be impacted.

PMD Issues Precautionary Measures

The Weather Alert also includes a caution regarding potential damage from gusty winds and lightning. Structures that are not firmly secured such as solar panels, trees, electric poles, and lightweight vehicles could be vulnerable.

Agricultural workers have been advised to plan farming activities with caution, taking into account the possibility of sudden weather changes.

Temporary Relief from Heatwave

One positive aspect of the Weather Alert is the expected drop in extreme heat levels. The ongoing heatwave conditions in upper Pakistan are likely to ease temporarily during this period, offering residents some respite from the intense temperatures experienced in recent days.
