Islamabad, 23 May 2025: In a progressive move aimed at empowering women and easing their mobility challenges, the Government of Sindh has announced that it will begin a monthly draw for the distribution of EV scooty to female residents of Karachi.

The initiative is expected to commence next month, marking a significant step toward sustainable and inclusive urban transport.

The announcement came as part of the province’s broader commitment to provide eco-friendly commuting options and support job creation for youth.

Officials highlighted that electric bikes (EV scooty) and electric vehicles (EVs) offer a cleaner alternative to conventional transportation, reducing pollution while also enabling safe, independent travel for women.

The scheme, which will operate through a monthly lottery system, is designed to ensure fairness and equal opportunity.

According to government representatives, the project is a part of Sindh’s wider strategy to modernize urban infrastructure, promote environmental responsibility, and support gender inclusion in public mobility.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who oversees the project, emphasized that electric mobility plays a vital role in addressing urban challenges.

He noted that the use of e-scooters and EVs is not only crucial for reducing environmental pollution but also serves as a practical solution to the daily commuting issues faced by working women.

He further added that the introduction of electric transportation can open up employment avenues for young people and contribute positively to the province’s economy.
