Islamabad, 26 May , 2025: Lawn Prices have become a focal point of national debate, as concerns mount over the soaring cost of summer clothing in Pakistan’s fashion sector.

The topic took centre stage during a recent session of the National Assembly, where lawmakers voiced growing frustration over what they described as unchecked commercial exploitation.

Lawmaker Raises Red Flag Over Rising Fashion Costs

Lawn Prices were strongly criticised by Member of National Assembly Shugufta Jumani, who brought attention to the startling inflation in ready-to-wear summer attire.

Speaking on the floor, she noted that what once sold for Rs7,000 to Rs8,000 is now being marketed at nearly Rs20,000 a sharp increase that has left many consumers unable to afford basic seasonal clothing.

The lawmaker questioned how prices of everyday lawn suits, which are widely worn by women across the country, had ballooned to such levels, urging the authorities to probe into potential profiteering by major clothing brands.

Staple Summer Wear Now a Luxury

Lawn Prices, traditionally viewed as affordable and essential for hot weather, are now placing a financial burden on households.

Known for their light fabric and detailed prints, lawn suits have evolved from practical wear to high-end fashion items, with top brands releasing designer collections every season.

The once accessible two-piece and three-piece suits, often adorned with embroidery and premium finishes, now cater more to elite consumers than the general public, prompting many to accuse the fashion industry of prioritising profits over affordability.

Call for Price Monitoring and Regulation

In response to the parliamentary debate, consumer rights advocates have urged government bodies to step in.
