Islamabad, 26 May, 2025: Weather Alert has been issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), warning of a spell of windstorms and thunderstorms likely to impact vast areas of the country over the coming days.

According to the latest forecast, moisture-laden air continues to push into the upper and central regions, while a westerly disturbance is expected to enter northern parts on May 28, intensifying the weather activity.

Unstable Weather Conditions to Prevail

The Weather Alert highlights that several cities and regions are likely to experience thunderstorms, gusty winds, and isolated heavy showers.

The affected areas include major urban and rural zones across Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan.

From the evening of May 27 through May 31, cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, and Murree could face periods of intense rain, wind, and possibly hail, with intervals of calm. The PMD indicated that some areas might also experience lightning and localized flooding.

Meanwhile, light to moderate rain accompanied by winds is anticipated in parts of southern Punjab and northern Balochistan, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, and Ziarat, between May 27 and May 30.

Potential Hazards and Safety Measures

In its Weather Alert, the PMD warned that powerful windstorms and hail could pose risks to vulnerable structures, such as roadside billboards, electricity poles, trees, and solar panels.

Travelers and tourists planning visits to hilly areas have been advised to remain cautious and stay updated with local forecasts.

Farmers, especially those in central and upper regions, have been encouraged to schedule crop-related tasks accordingly and avoid working during severe weather periods.
