Islamabad, May 26, 2025: Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah held a high-level meeting with Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan at the Chief Minister’s House, Karach to discuss major infrastructure projects, including the M-6 Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway, the National Highway, Jamshoro–Sehwan Road, Lyari Expressway, and the M-10 Motorway from Karachi to Hyderabad.
The session was also attended by Secretary Communications Ali Sher Mehsud, NHA Chairman Sahibzada Shehryar, and other senior officials.
M-6 Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway
Chief Minister Shah emphasized the importance of the M-6 project, stating, “A continuous motorway link from Karachi to Peshawar and Lahore is essential. Until Karachi Port is connected to the rest of the country, the purpose of the motorway network remains incomplete.”
He expressed disappointment over the delayed progress, adding, “Several motorways have been completed, yet M-6 is still pending despite being approved on the Prime Minister’s directive.”
Federal Minister Aleem Khan agreed, saying, “Linking Karachi Port with the motorway network is crucial; without it, the project is left unfinished. The purpose of any motorway is to provide seamless connectivity from start to end.”
Aleem Khan informed that M-6 has been divided into five sections. “Funding for three of them is complete, while work on the rest is ongoing,” he said. He also noted that the construction is being funded through a mix of federal support and bank financing.
Chief Minister Shah raised concerns over delays under the Public-Private Partnership model and suggested an alternative, saying, “We can provide Rs. 40 to 50 billion through bridge financing. Work on M-6 must begin immediately.”

National Highway & Jamshoro–Sehwan Road
The Chief Minister reported that “66 kilometers of the Jamshoro–Sehwan Road have been completed, while work is progressing on 24 kilometers from Khanuot to Manjhand.” He urged for early completion of the remaining work.
Federal Minister Aleem Khan assured, “The federal government has already initiated work for the road’s full completion.”
Lyari Expressway
The NHA revealed that a third-party audit has declared the Lyari Expressway unfit for heavy vehicles. However, the authority proposed allowing limited heavy traffic during off-peak hours.
CM Shah criticized the original design, stating, “The expressway was meant to link Karachi Port directly to the motorway, but that objective was never met.” He added, “Heavy and local traffic currently converge at Sohrab Goth. There’s a need for a separate service road to segregate them.”

It was agreed that an engineering solution would be devised to resolve the traffic congestion at Sohrab Goth.
M-10 New Karachi–Hyderabad Motorway
The meeting also discussed the new M-10 Motorway project, which will provide a direct route from ICI Bridge, KPT, Gulbai, and Hub Chowki to Hyderabad. The participants agreed to finalize the complete planning for this project.
It was highlighted that the M-10 would allow heavy and port traffic to reach Hyderabad directly, reducing congestion on existing city routes.
