ISLAMABAD: The Standing Committee on Interior of the National Assembly met under the chair of Raja Khurram Nawaz here today.
The agenda of the meeting included various bills regarding legislation. One of the primary decisions taken during the meeting was to make the Union Councils of Islamabad more active for the provision of public services and equip them with modern facilities.
The Minister of State for Interior assured the committee that the Union Councils of Islamabad will be equipped with modern facilities in every respect.
The committee also decided to expand the scope of tax collection in the Union Councils, to ensure public services from taxes. In this regard, the Minister of State for Interior assured that an action plan will soon be formulated, in collaboration with the members of the National Assembly and the Chief Commissioner.
The Chairman of the Committee informed the attendees about the non-implementation of the Rural Development Package announced by the Prime Minister of Pakistan for Islamabad. The delay in implementation of the cleaning project is now worsening the situation of garbage in the rural areas of the federal capital territory, he said.
The Minister of State for Interior directed the Chief Commissioner Islamabad and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman to ensure the provision of facilities to the public in rural areas. He also directed the CDA and Islamabad administration to finalise the said projects in the upcoming budget, in collaboration with the three members concerned of the National Assembly from Islamabad.
The Chief Commissioner Islamabad assured that, in collaboration with the local government, the CDA will provide all possible cooperation to solve the problems in the rural areas of Islamabad.
The meeting also decided that the Minister of State for Interior will call a meeting of the relevant NA members, and related institutions from Islamabad regarding the problems highlighted during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the committee meeting appreciated the performance of the Ministry of Interior and the CDA for completing various projects for the convenience of the people in urban areas, in record times.
