Manchester United’s woes continued as they suffered a 1-0 defeat in a post-season friendly clash against ASEAN All-Stars vs Man United at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. The result capped off what has been a forgettable campaign for the English side.

The only goal of the night came in the 71st minute from Myanmar’s national team captain Maung Maung Lwin, who broke through the defence and slotted the ball into the top corner past Tom Heaton. The goal sealed a historic win for the ASEAN All-Stars and left the Red Devils humiliated in front of their global fanbase.

In sweltering conditions of 32°C, the All-Stars side appeared sharper and more aggressive from the start. They tested goalkeeper Andre Onana early, while United struggled to create real chances. Kobbie Mainoo offered the first genuine threat with a long-range shot turned behind, and another effort was dramatically cleared off the line in the 38th minute.

United’s performance improved slightly in the second half with the introduction of Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho. However, they failed to convert possession into goals. When Maung Maung Lwin netted the opener, United were left stunned. Heaton had to step up once again shortly after to prevent a second goal.

Frustrated fans booed at full time, and many left the stadium before the final whistle. “We were slow… The boos from the fans, it’s something that we need,” admitted manager Ruben Amorim.

The ASEAN All-Stars vs Man United result adds to the club’s miserable season, where they finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham. United are set to play the Hong Kong national team on May 30, hoping to restore some pride.
