Islamabad, 29 May 2025: Soaring Chicken Prices have become a major concern across Punjab, prompting urgent intervention from the provincial government.

With poultry rates skyrocketing beyond the reach of many families, the issue is adding to the financial strain on lower-income households just days before Eid-ul-Azha.

Residents across Lahore have reported being forced to cut back on poultry due to the unaffordable rates. Despite not appearing on the official price list, chicken is currently being sold between Rs. 560 and Rs. 760 per kilogram in various parts of the city.

Meanwhile, prices in Islamabad reflect a similar trend, with live poultry at Rs. 410 per kg and chicken meat priced at Rs. 680 per kg.

Chief Minister Orders Immediate Action on Price Hike

During a policy meeting held in Lahore, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed serious concern over Soaring Chicken Prices and directed relevant authorities to take prompt measures to bring the cost of poultry under control.

She stressed that affordable access to essential food items must be safeguarded, especially for economically vulnerable populations.

The Chief Minister was briefed by her team on market fluctuations and inflationary trends. Officials were instructed to intensify price monitoring efforts and ensure timely market inspections to deter hoarding and profiteering.

Vegetable and Roti Prices Also Under Scrutiny

In addition to tackling the poultry price surge, CM Maryam emphasized the need for tighter regulation of essential vegetables such as onions, tomatoes, garlic, green chilies, ginger, and lemons. With the Eid season approaching, she warned that any artificial inflation in food staples would be addressed firmly.

She also ordered local administrations to enforce reductions in bread (roti) prices following recent drops in flour costs. Ensuring that this benefit reaches ordinary citizens, she noted, was essential for maintaining public trust.

Strategic Measures for Long-Term Stability

The Chief Minister further called on the Agriculture Department to develop sustainable solutions, including reducing transportation costs for vegetables and promoting off-season farming. These steps, she said, would help create price stability in the long run.
