Islamabad, 29 May 2025: Fake Zamzam Water has once again become a serious concern after municipal inspectors in Sharjah uncovered an illicit bottling scheme that falsely marketed ordinary water as the sacred liquid.

The fraudulent activity, discovered in a residential building, involved repackaging regular tank water and selling it under the false label of Zamzam.

The covert operation was detected during routine field checks conducted by the Sharjah City Municipality in collaboration with the Health and Safety Control division.

Officials reportedly became alert after observing frequent movement of vehicles loading bottled water from a home in a residential neighborhood.

Following the tip-off, a swift raid was carried out where one person was apprehended on-site. Authorities revealed that large quantities of empty plastic containers and cartons were being filled and branded as Fake Zamzam Water, all under unsanitary conditions that posed a risk to public health.

Investigators said the counterfeit product was being promoted online and sold at inflated prices, deceiving buyers by exploiting the religious and cultural value attached to genuine Zamzam water.

Municipal authorities, led by Obaid Al Teneiji, stated that safeguarding public well-being is a top priority and that any deceptive business practices will be dealt with firmly.

He emphasized that the city maintains constant surveillance to detect activities that threaten consumer safety.

As part of the inquiry, financial records were found linking the scheme to RT Mineral Water Trading Company a legitimate business entity allegedly used as a front to issue fake receipts and mislead customers.

This connection led to coordinated action with the Department of Economic Development, which has since revoked the company’s commercial license.
