Islamabad, May 30, 2025: In the first qualifier of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings who faced early setbacks by losing, surprised many by sending young Musheer Khan to bat. This was Musheer’s first time playing in the IPL, in fact his first ever T20 debut match.

The decision to send him in was made by head coach Ricky Ponting, who showed confidence in the 20-year-old during a crucial phase. However, as soon as Musheer walked out to bat, an unexpected moment drew attention. Virat Kohli was seen saying something while pointing towards Musheer. Although his exact words weren’t captured clearly on camera, many viewers on social media claimed that Kohli referred to Musheer as a “Water Boy.”

That comment quickly sparked outrage among some cricket fans. Many felt it was inappropriate for a senior player like Kohli to make such a remark, especially toward a young cricketer like Musheer Khan making his debut on such a big stage.

Social media was flooded with reactions, with some users expressing concern that such comments could discourage upcoming talent.

But a different version of the story soon emerged. It turns out that earlier in the same match, while Punjab was batting, Musheer had come onto the field briefly to bring water bottles. According to those defending Kohli, he wasn’t mocking the youngster but was merely surprised. He had just seen Musheer carrying water, and within minutes, the same player was suddenly out to bat.

In the end, Punjab Kings were bowled out for just 101 runs. Royal Challengers Bangalore chased the total in just 10 overs, securing a win and reserving a spot in the IPL final.

The debate over Kohli’s remark continues, with some fans demanding more respect for young talent, while others believe the entire issue has been blown out of proportion.
