Islamabad, May 30, 2025: Just weeks after a ceasefire agreement ended heightened military tensions, India decided to conduct mock drills in four Indian states bordering Pakistan starting Thursday (today).

As per reports in the Indian press, large-scale mock drills will take place in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), as well as in the states of Punjab and Gujarat, later in the day.

Meanwhile, the Haryana government has also announced an extensive emergency readiness drill, dubbed Operation Shield, to be held simultaneously across all 22 districts at 5 PM (local time). The operation is designed to assess and bolster the state’s response capacity in the face of emergencies.

Organised under the supervision of the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the simulation will include scenarios mimicking aerial bombardments, drone strikes, and other wartime threats, reflecting ongoing national security concerns.

A brief, controlled blackout is also planned from 8:00 PM to 8:15 PM in zones near military installations. Essential services like hospitals, fire brigades, and police facilities will be exempted from the power cut.

Speaking about the initiative, Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary for the Home Department, Dr Sumita Misra, stated: “The goal of this operation is to evaluate current emergency protocols, enhance coordination among civil agencies, defence units, and the public, and to pinpoint gaps in preparedness so as to guarantee a prompt and effective reaction during real emergencies.”

It is worth noting that last time India decided to conduct mock drills across the state was on May 7, shortly after Indian fighter jets targeted civilian areas within Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of 26 people and damage to places of worship.
