Islamabad, June 3, 2025: The Punjab government has approved a renovation plan for the Lahore Metro Bus service, allocating over Rs 5 billion for the initiative. The scheme is aimed at upgrading infrastructure, introducing solar-powered systems, and enhancing facilities for passengers.
According to City42, official records reveal that Rs 2.105 billion will be spent on repairing and renovating 25 metro bus stations across the city.
A separate Rs 1.7 billion budget has been set aside to equip all stations with solar energy systems, while Rs 1.5 billion will go towards the repair and restoration of the existing metro track.
The improvement plan also covers pedestrian bridge repairs, modernization of ticket counters, and overall enhancement of station platforms to improve accessibility and visual appeal.

Punjab’s Transport Minister shared that the engineering consultancy NESPAK had carried out a detailed inspection and cost evaluation under the Chief Minister’s directives. He criticized the previous administration for failing to maintain the Lahore Metro, which now demands urgent attention to uphold service standards.

In a step towards greener transport, the minister also revealed that all metro buses will gradually be switched to electric vehicles. This transformation is intended to reduce pollution and bring the public transport system in line with international sustainability practices.
