Islamabad, 3 june 2025: World’s Largest Cooling System has been activated in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, offering an unprecedented level of climate control for millions of worshippers converging at Islam’s holiest site.

Operated under the oversight of the General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, the advanced system provides a massive 155,000 tons of cooling capacity to maintain comfort inside the Grand Mosque, Al Haram, during intense heat conditions.

The cutting-edge setup includes two main chilling stations: the Shamiya Plant, contributing 120,000 tons of refrigeration, and the Ajyad Station, which adds another 35,000 tons.

These stations work around the clock to deliver cooled, purified air across vast prayer areas and newly developed sections of the mosque, ensuring a consistently serene environment for pilgrims.

Interior temperatures are maintained between 22°C and 24°C, regardless of the sweltering temperatures outside, a necessity during peak summer and the annual Hajj season.

What distinguishes the World’s Largest Cooling System is its sophisticated air filtration technology. Up to 95% of airborne particles, including dust and allergens, are removed, supplying worshippers with not just cool but also clean air.

These high-performance purifiers operate seamlessly with the cooling network, creating an atmosphere that supports reflection and worship without physical strain.

Routine inspections and proactive maintenance protocols are central to the system’s success. Engineers conduct regular safety evaluations, component upgrades, and energy audits to guarantee operational continuity.

This is especially vital during the Hajj pilgrimage, when the mosque sees a sharp rise in visitors and usage demands peak.
