Islamabad, 6 June 2025: Under the leadership of Sindh’s Minister for Law and Home Affairs, a high-level meeting was held to finalize proposed amendments to the province’s motor vehicle regulations, aiming to enhance road safety and enforce stricter compliance on public and private transport.
A major decision taken during the session was the mandatory fitness certification for all commercial and non-commercial vehicles across Sindh.

According to Law and Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, these certifications will be conducted through authorized third-party inspection services, ensuring transparency and eliminating loopholes in the current system.
The meeting also approved a ban on four-seater rickshaws, as part of efforts to regulate unapproved vehicle modifications and reduce traffic hazards. However, one-by-two-seater rickshaws will continue to be permitted on designated routes, provided they comply with the updated safety and registration standards.
Crackdowns on traffic violations are also set to intensify. The revised rules propose that any government-owned vehicle found violating one-way traffic regulations will face a fine of Rs. 200,000. Similarly, motorcyclists riding in the wrong direction may incur a penalty of Rs. 25,000, while four-wheeled vehicles breaching one-way rules will be subject to a fine of Rs. 100,000.

“These changes are being introduced to restore discipline on the roads and protect the lives of citizens,” Lanjar said, emphasizing that the amendments are aimed at both deterrence and accountability.
The draft amendments to the Motor Vehicles Rules will soon be submitted to the Sindh Cabinet for final approval. Officials stated that once enacted, the revised framework would significantly contribute to improved traffic management and reduce the number of road accidents in the province.
