Islamabad, June 9, 2025: Pakistan’s information technology (IT) sector has been declared one of the country’s fastest-growing industries, according to the latest economic survey report. IT exports surged by 23.7%, reaching $2.825 billion in the fiscal year, with March 2025 alone recording $342 million — a 12.1% month-on-month increase.

The sector also achieved the highest trade surplus among services at $2.4 billion. Freelancers significantly contributed by bringing in $400 million in foreign exchange.

Over 1,900 startups have received training from National Incubation Centers, while more than 12,000 women have been economically empowered through business initiatives.

The telecom sector also showed robust growth, with total revenues reaching Rs. 803 billion. The number of telecom users in the country rose to 199.9 million, with a teledensity of 81.3%. Telecom’s contribution to the national exchequer stood at Rs. 271 billion.

Further strengthening digital cooperation, a Pakistan-China IT working group has been established to collaborate on cybersecurity and digital development. The report also highlighted a growing global demand for Pakistani software, reflecting IT’s vital role in boosting national exports.
