Islamabad, June 10, 2025: In a bold move to transform rural Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the Punjab Model Village Project, a groundbreaking initiative that aims to convert over 2,400 rural settlements into modern, fully-equipped model villages.
The ambitious rural development plan, spearheaded by Punjab’s Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq, seeks to bring international-grade infrastructure and essential services to villages across the province. According to government officials, this transformative project is set to roll out in phases and will eventually cover more than 60% of Punjab’s villages.
Of the total target, the Punjab government will directly fund upgrades in 800 villages, focusing initially on areas surrounding Lahore. Meanwhile, the World Bank will provide financial support for the development of the remaining 1,600 villages, underlining the global confidence in this visionary plan.
Key Features of the Punjab Model Village Project:
- Construction of wide, paved streets
- Clean and efficient water supply systems
- Advanced sanitation and waste management
- Installation of LED street lighting
- Access to safe, potable drinking water

This rural uplift plan will receive a dedicated budget allocation in the upcoming provincial budget, signaling the administration’s firm commitment to equitable development.
By raising the standard of living in underdeveloped areas, the Maryam Nawaz rural development agenda aims to bridge the urban-rural divide and create sustainable growth for future generations.
