Islamabad, 10 June 2025: The federal government, in its recently unveiled budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, has put forth a substantial initiative aimed at easing the financial burden on a crucial segment of the nation’s workforce.

Under the new proposals, dedicated full-time educators and research professionals serving within Pakistan’s non-commercial academic or scientific establishments are poised to receive considerable tax concessions.

As per the newly introduced fiscal arrangement, a quarter of the income tax due on the earnings of these individuals will be waived.

This significant concession extends to those employed by entities officially sanctioned by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), various educational boards, or universities affiliated with the HEC, encompassing a range of public sector research bodies.

Nevertheless, a notable caveat accompanies this beneficial provision. Medical instructors who also derive income from private clinical practice or who partake in patient fee distributions will not be eligible for this financial reprieve.
