Islamabad, 11 June 2025: Incomplete Flyover key components still under development, the Nawaz Sharif Flyover on Rawalpindi’s Adiala Road has officially opened for vehicular traffic. The decision to allow early access aims to ease congestion in the area, although work on adjacent service lanes remains ongoing.
Officials from the Punjab Communication and Works Department have confirmed that service road construction will resume at full pace now that traffic flow has been diverted onto the flyover.
Installation of street lighting and decorative features has already been finalized, while electric pole relocation is expected within a few days. Road carpeting along the service routes is anticipated to wrap up within a week.

The flyover, measuring 1,915 feet long and 52 feet wide, has been developed at an estimated cost of Rs2.113 billion. While some final touches are pending, authorities opted for partial opening due to rising traffic pressure in the area.
In a separate development, work on the GPO double-barrel underpass near The Mall in Rawalpindi is nearing completion.
According to project engineers, carpeting has been finalized, and drainage infrastructure is in place, with ongoing construction now focused on the service lanes. Incomplete Flyover construction crews remained on-site to maintain the project’s momentum.
The underpass spans over one kilometer and comes with a total outlay of Rs4.6 billion. Once operational, it will offer a signal-free corridor from TM Chowk (in front of GHQ) to the Military Hospital, aiming to benefit nearly 250,000 vehicles daily and ease congestion on one of Rawalpindi’s busiest routes.
