Islamabad, June 12, 2025: Air India confirmed that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off. The London-bound Air India plane was carrying 242 passengers when it crashed near Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday morning.
According to Indian media, the flight departed from Ahmedabad at 13:38 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were British, 1 was Canadian and 7 were Portuguese nationals. In addition 2 pilots and 10 crew members were also onboard.
A senior police officer in Ahmedabad in a statement said that the plane crashed into a doctors’ hostel. he further added police, firefighters and other civic workers had reached the spot within minutes and rescue operations are ongoing. The injured individuals are being taken to the nearest hospitals.

The airline in the initial statement stated: “Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad-London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today.” However, after a brief update, Air India added it was “ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest” through its official channels, including its website and verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
Air India affirmed that it is giving its “full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident”. Moreover it has also set up a dedicated hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information about the incident.

Boeing has also responded to the crash involving Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. “We are aware of initial reports and are working to gather more information,” the company said in official statement.
