Islamabad, 13 June 2025: Sunjay Kapur, a prominent Indian industrialist and former husband of actress Karisma Kapoor, has died at the age of 53 while in England. His sudden passing has drawn tributes from both business circles and the entertainment industry.
The news of Sunjay Kapur’s death was confirmed by columnist and author Suhel Seth, who shared on X (formerly Twitter), “Deeply saddened at the passing of sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar. Death While Playing Polo
According to multiple reports, Sunjay Kapur collapsed while taking part in a polo match in the UK on June 12. It is believed he suffered a fatal heart attack during the game. Unverified claims also suggest that he may have inadvertently swallowed a bee during play, potentially contributing to the tragic incident.

Sunjay Kapur was the Chairman of Sona Comstar, a key player in the global automotive technology market.

He was the son of Dr. Surinder Kapur, the late founder of the Sona Group an influential name in Indian manufacturing. Under Sunjay’s leadership, the group continued to expand its international footprint in the automotive sector.
A Well-Known Public Life
While Sunjay Kapur built an influential career in business, he was also frequently in the spotlight due to his high-profile marriage to Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor.
The couple married in 2003 and parted ways in 2016. They shared two children Samaira and Kiaan and he was often seen spending time with them during visits to Mumbai.
After his divorce, he remarried former model and entrepreneur Priya Sachdev. The couple had a son, Azarias, in 2018.
