Islamabad, June 15, 2025: The federal government has officially allocated Rs15 billion in the 2025-26 budget to jumpstart construction on the long-delayed Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) — a vital component of Pakistan’s national infrastructure.

This critical motorway project is set to complete the final segment of the country’s north-south motorway network, linking Karachi to Peshawar. Once operational, the M-6 is expected to significantly enhance regional connectivity, boost national trade, and promote economic integration across provinces.

Speaking to the media, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan confirmed that work on the project would commence later this year. To ensure timely and efficient execution, the motorway will be constructed in five separate segments. He further disclosed that the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has shown strong interest in providing financial support, with the final loan decision expected in September 2025 during the bank’s scheduled board meeting.

In light of recent statements by the Sindh Chief Minister, Aleem Khan clarified that his ministry bears responsibility only for the developments of the past year and refrained from assigning blame for prior delays.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the M-6, the minister emphasized the need to connect Karachi Port with the national motorway grid, stating that the full potential of the network cannot be realized without this key link to support Pakistan’s import and export operations.

With construction now on the horizon, the Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway is poised to become a game-changer for Pakistan’s logistics, trade, and transport landscape.
