Islamabad, June 18, 2025: A devastating fire broke out early Wednesday morning at Millennium Mall in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky and causing panic among nearby residents. The incident, which began around 4:30 AM, started from the mall’s rooftop and rapidly spread to the third and fourth floors—housing several retail outlets and garment stores.
The Karachi mall fire triggered a swift response from emergency services. According to Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan, 11 fire trucks and two snorkels were dispatched to the scene. However, their efforts were slowed by an acute water shortage, which made controlling the flames more difficult. Despite these hurdles, officials confirmed that the fire was largely brought under control within a few hours, with cooling operations still underway.
Though the mall was closed at the time of the incident and no casualties were reported, extensive damage to the building’s interior and commercial shops is feared. Residents living in adjacent buildings were evacuated as a safety measure due to the intense heat and thick smoke enveloping the area.
