Islamabad, June 18, 2025: The Punjab government has earmarked a massive Rs150 billion under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) 2025–26 for transformative infrastructure projects in Rawalpindi, aiming to tackle the city’s chronic traffic congestion and modernize its road network.
A centerpiece of this initiative is the Mall Road Signal-Free Corridor, designed to ensure smooth traffic flow through the heart of the city. The project features a series of underpasses and flyovers at key junctions including Race Course, Chairing Cross, Army Graveyard Chowk, Kutchery Chowk, Iftikhar Janjua Road, Jinnah Park, and Ammar Chowk.
The government has already set aside major funds for execution:
- Race Course Underpass will be developed at Rs2.6 billion.
- Chairing Cross Underpass is budgeted at Rs1.5 billion.
- Army Graveyard Chowk will see Rs1.9 billion in funding, with Rs68 million to be spent this year.
- Kutchery Chowk underpass and road expansion will cost Rs4.45 billion, with an immediate allocation of Rs160 million.
- Iftikhar Janjua Road Underpass carries a Rs1.93 billion price tag with Rs69 million allocated for FY 2025–26.
In addition:
- Jinnah Park Flyover is projected at Rs4.15 billion, with Rs149 million reserved.
- Ammar Chowk Flyover will receive Rs124 million from its Rs3.45 billion total cost.
- COD Chowk Underpass (Range Road) has a total budget of Rs3.75 billion, with Rs135 million to be spent this year.
- Adiala Road’s Tulsa Underpass, a Rs1.69 billion project, has Rs61 million earmarked.
These upgrades mark a new era in Rawalpindi’s urban planning, promising reduced traffic jams, faster commutes, and improved public access. The large-scale infrastructure overhaul is expected to significantly uplift the city’s road network and boost its economic potential.
