Islamabad, June 19, 2025: Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal made an unannounced visit at PIMS today and inspected the 200-bed Emergency Block which is in its final stages of construction and is expected to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister shortly.
Calling it a transformative development in emergency healthcare for the capital’s rapidly growing population, Minister Ahsan Iqbal noted that the newly built emergency tower will cater to 10,000 patients every day.
This new facility will offer state-of-the-art emergency services. Moreover, it will stand as a federal landmark in the field of healthcare.
He carried out a comprehensive walkthrough of all units established within the building, including modern triage setups, trauma response centers, surgical suites, diagnostic sections, and critical care units.
The Project Head stated that all types of emergency treatments will be handled under one roof. The tower will enable patient classification (or disaster casualties) based on medical condition, seriousness, likelihood of recovery, and available resources.

During the inspection, the Planning Minister reaffirmend the government’s unwavering commitment to enhance the public health systems. “This facility reflects our sustained investment in critical care services.” Referring to PIMS as the foremost tertiary healthcare institution in the federal territory, Ahsan Iqbal expressed optimism, stating that this extension will help manage the growing number of patients and ease the burden on current emergency departments.

The Minister further emphasised that the federal government is keeping development of the health sector a key priority. The government is further giving special attention on quality, accessibility, and preparedness.
Reflecting on his unscheduled visit, he confirmed, “The purpose of my visit today is to personally review project progress and ensure that timely actions are being taken at all levels so that the facility can be inaugurated in a timely manner.”
