Islamabad, June 19, 2025: The federal government has approved a plan to impose tax on private online educational institutions and coaching centers.
Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Rashid Mehmood Langrial, recently revealed that certain digital academies are generating monthly revenues of up to Rs. 200 million but have not been taxed so far. These entities will now be included in the tax system.
Furthermore, independent educators earning through online means will also be brought within the scope of taxation.
In a related development, the Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) has called for urgent amendments to the higher education budgets at both federal and provincial levels.

The council has additionally adopted a resolution pressing the Punjab administration to enhance the recurring financial support for state-run universities. They also objected to the proposed elimination of tax exemptions for university faculty members.

Additionally, the committee discussed the proposed tax on recreational clubs, including Islamabad Club, stating that such clubs should pay taxes on income exceeding their expenditures.
