Islamabad, June 20, 2025: Inter Miami pulled off a surprising 2-1 win over Portuguese heavyweights FC Porto in a Inter Miami vs Porto fixture, with a stunning free-kick from Lionel Messi sealing the dramatic comeback for the MLS club.
Porto started strongly, taking the lead after wing-back Joao Mario earned a penalty, which Samu Aghehowa slotted in despite the goalkeeper managing to get a touch. Aghehowa caused plenty of problems for the Miami backline with his hold-up play, but Porto’s defense soon began to slip, allowing Inter Miami to grow into the contest.
Messi, gradually influencing the game, became increasingly hard to handle for the Portuguese outfit. Though no longer as quick, the Argentine legend’s awareness, technical brilliance, and pinpoint dribbling helped him release Luis Suarez in the 19th minute—only for Claudio Ramos to deny the chance.

Benjamin Cremaschi tested Ramos again with a powerful attempt, while Porto threatened through long-range efforts from Aghehowa and Alan Varela.
Coming into the second half with renewed energy, Inter Miami finally found the equalizer when Telasco Segovia hammered in a cross to make it 1-1. Not long after, Messi completed the turnaround with a flawless free-kick curled into the top corner—marking the 68th such goal of his career across clubs and international duty.
